As the Squamish Nation’s economic development arm, we recognize that our workplace and mandate are unique, and we do things differently from other businesses and organizations. We’re sometimes asked whether specialized skills or education are required to join our team—here’s the answer:
Opportunities for qualified Squamish People are our priority when hiring, followed by other Indigenous candidates, then non-Indigenous candidates. All new job openings are posted with the Squamish Nation for at least one week before we consider non-Squamish applicants. You can find all of our available postings on the Careers page of our website.
There are opportunities at Nch’ḵay̓ for qualified people with all kinds of educational, work, and life experiences. When evaluating a candidate, we consider the skills and experience they bring to the table, alongside having a strong alignment to our values and purpose. We also provide professional development and training opportunities on an individual basis.
Some positions may require a post-secondary or graduate degree as well as several years of direct and relevant experience for management and executive-level positions, others require a college diploma or certificate paired with related experience, and several roles need a high school diploma or related work experience. Wherever you are in your career, we have opportunities in business, forestry, and service.
As an organization that is wholly owned by the Squamish Nation, it’s important to us that all our team members are aligned with the Nation’s values: Úxwumixw, Snew̓íyelh, Wanáxws, Siyám̓in, Nexwnínew̓, and Stélmexw. We encourage all prospective applicants to read about the meaning and significance of these values here.
Feel free to email HR@nchkay.com any time to talk about your career goals, aspirations, and experience. We’d love to have a conversation about how we can help you get there.
